Ian Thompson | President & CEO

Ian Thompson founded THD with Jeff Habib and Jay Denison in 1989 to help nonprofits achieve sustained growth with a focus on net revenue. Since then, THD has helped our clients raise more than a billion dollars.

With more than 35 years of experience in direct marketing and fundraising, Ian provides high-level strategic and creative support to THD clients.

He is a graduate of Boston University's College of Communications, and a former Director of Annual Giving at BU. Born in London and raised in Buenos Aires and Santiago, Ian also found time in his youth to enlist in the Marines and see the world.

Currently, Ian serves as Chairman of the Board of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, affiliated with the University of Arizona and the state park system.

A little known fact about Ian: He once had a pet penguin while living in Punta Arenas, in the southernmost tip of Chile. Ian lives with his family in Concord, MA.

For nearly 30 years, Jay Denison has been the moving force behind many of the most sophisticated and effective analytical tools used by database marketers today. His analytic skills have contributed significantly to the ability of THD's clients to exceed the industry standard for revenue growth.

Jay has helped drive program strategy for some of the nation’s largest chapter-based nonprofit organizations, primary among them The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the March of Dimes. In addition, he has supported the efforts of many of Canada’s largest charities, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

He is a graduate of Tufts University, where he majored in biology. Jay lives in Concord, MA with his family.

After graduating from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, Beth started her career with Epsilon in their nonprofit division where she worked closely with THD’s three partners. Four years later, she had the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a little-known boutique start-up called Thompson Habib Denison.

For more than 20 years, Beth has used her experience and talent to drive fundraising growth for the agency’s nonprofit clients including The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the March of Dimes, and Make-A-Wish. Beth’s passion for nonprofit marketing stems from the fact that her work supports people in need and changes lives for the better.

A family-life/work-life balance is very important to Beth. She spends lots of time on the sidelines of sporting events or at dance performances cheering on her two daughters.

Brian Murphy | Senior Vice President, Analytics & Technology

A Princeton graduate, Brian has more than 26 years of experience working with the nonprofit sector. He spent the first 20 years of his career at Epsilon, where he worked his way to Vice President of Client Services. From 2004 to 2008, Brian worked for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) as the Director of Fundraising Solutions & Operations. His key accomplishment was leading a cross departmental team in the implementation of an international, enterprise-wide CRM system that supports the organization’s $100 million global fundraising program.

As Senior Vice President of Analytics, Brian oversees all analytic capabilities of THD. He and his team seek to leverage and improve upon the tools available in the industry, by searching for and developing new and exciting ways to model data for THD’s clients.

When not in the office, Brian can be found coaching his sons in sports such as basketball and baseball. Then, after all that activity, he and his family head out for a round of golf.

Sherri’s love of writing took her to University of Massachusetts/Amherst, where she majored in English Literature. Her copywriting talents were first put to use in the travel industry before she moved to Epsilon, where she would meet and work alongside the three future founders of Thompson Habib Denison.

She left Epsilon for a freelance career in 1991, which afforded her the opportunity to take some time off every year to indulge her passion for travel. Even marriage and a baby couldn’t control her wanderlust: in 2006, she and her family drove an RV across the country for a year, visiting 46 out of the 48 continental United States. When she returned, she became a full-time THD employee.

Sherri’s need to help others is not limited to her role at THD. Over the years, she has done pro-bono work for a number of local nonprofits including the Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association, an organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of eating disorders.

An accomplished, client focused, digital marketing professional, Jeff has a long history leading integrated teams overseeing numerous Fortune 100 brands in retail, CPG, pharma and financial services. He has deep experience in digital strategy, media, content, and mobile. Jeff has also helped develop a suite of mobile services to build awareness and collect donations via direct billed mobile transactions.

A 1997 graduate of Plymouth State, Jeff currently resides in Marlboro with his wife, Laurel, and two sons, Connor, 7 years, and Brennan, 4 years. In his spare time, he is an avid golfer, reader and enjoys coaching his son’s sports teams.

Eric is a highly-focused business development leader with extensive experience delivering revenue and profit growth for leading nonprofit organizations, membership groups and service & technology businesses. He has a 20+ year history of leading high-performing sales, marketing and client service teams that deliver near-immediate results.

He is recognized as energetic leader, strong motivator and exceptional communicator and has served in multiple leadership roles at industry events and is a regular speaker at conferences. Eric currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation and works closely with other industry leaders in shaping the DMANF’s priorities and body of work.

A graduate of Kalamazoo College (MI) with a degree in Economics and Marketing, Eric is a proud dad to daughter Emily and son Ethan. He is most proud, however, of his marriage proposal 25+ years ago to wife Molly and is a regular witness to the fact that she is most definitely “the better half!”

In the early 1980s, Chris built the first marketing database for a large bank in the Midwest to promote additional products and services to their 660,000 customers. Today, he analyzes data for clients with millions of customers to uncover marketing opportunities.

Since joining THD in 2003, Chris has designed the foundations of the company’s marketing systems, turning client data into meaningful and powerful strategic marketing tools. A huge believer in automation, Chris has helped build a system architecture that supports processes designed to be flexible, accurate, and fast – keeping costs low and helping clients realize significant savings.

Though currently busy raising three teenagers, Chris has biked more than 500 miles across Wisconsin, walked 30 miles in a single day as a fundraiser, skydived, coached more than 35 softball or baseball teams, and built a 90-foot wall of boulders by hand. He lives in Concord, MA with his wife, their three kids and their dog.

Chad is a 15-year veteran in direct response, having worked with dozens of nonprofit organizations to develop successful fundraising programs.

After graduating with honors from Bryant University, Chad joined LW Robbins as an Account Executive. He was a Vice President and senior strategist with Robbins before joining THD. His notable client experience includes Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Lighthouse International and American Liver Foundation.

Chad currently serves on the Board of Directors for the New England Direct Marketing Association Foundation and is a frequent speaker at DMA Nonprofit Federation Conferences.

When he’s not working, he’s spending Saturday mornings watching his two young daughters play basketball or relaxing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

After graduating from Colby College, Chris began his career as a development officer at a small school for deaf children before moving on to work for Imagitas, where he worked on clients such as USPS. At L.W. Robbins, Chris had the opportunity to merge two of his passions, nonprofit work and sports, and lend his talents to the Special Olympics account. He also gave much of his free time to the Special Olympics as a volunteer along with coaching football for 9-10 year olds.

Chris has been with THD since 2005 and has led strategic direction and account service teams on major national nonprofits including the Alzheimer’s Association.

When he’s not blazing a trail through raw data and pivot tables at THD or chasing after his two growing boys, Chris seeks out new trails in the wilderness of the U.S.A. Most notably, over the course of numerous trips, Chris has spent over a month exploring below the rim of the Grand Canyon.

Nora graduated from Boston College with a B.S. in marketing and a love of the BC Eagles. She got her start in direct marketing with Kessler Financial Services (today called The Kessler Group), but she had her sights set on working on broader strategic efforts and a more mission-focused client base.

Nora began working with THD in direct mail production. She quickly transitioned to a strategic, account management role for major nonprofit clients where she put her talents for understanding and communicating complex data to work.

Her determination and fortitude probably stem from her experience of having grown up in what are probably the three snowiest cities in the east – Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Buffalo. She says Boston is the warmest place she's ever lived.

Sarah graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a major in Communications and a minor in Marketing. She joined THD right out of college and has never looked back. With a head for numbers and a talent in strategic development, Sarah has quickly grown to lead major client accounts at THD.

Sarah’s involvement with nonprofits extends beyond her work here at THD. She has participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure as well as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ’Light the Night’ event to help raise funds for these worthy organizations.

In the summer, Sarah sails with her family, and in the winter, her thoughts turn to snow. She is one of the brave few who has skied the double black diamond slope, Tuckerman’s Ravine on Mt. Washington, NH. When she’s not on the slopes or the water, she’s at her house in New Hampshire with her husband, working on home renovation projects.

Julia has been with THD since it was a company of 12 people located in a large Victorian house in Arlington, MA. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a love of UVM’s Vermont Catamounts Hockey (“The Cats”) and a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. After graduating, Julia joined The Genesis Group in Vermont before heading for sunnier climes in Massachusetts.

Every year, Julia walks the nonprofit walk as a camp counselor at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a camp for children with cancer. Her motivation is to play a part in creating special memories and experiences for kids who have so much to deal with on daily basis. As she puts it, “their perspective on life is incredible”… a perspective that she tries to emulate in her work with clients at THD.

While attending UMass Dartmouth, Matt began working for a small database marketing agency and his fate was sealed. From running mail machines to pay for college, to his years at Holland Mark Advertising as an Account Manager, Matt’s direct response experience extends from production to strategic development and includes integrated and online marketing.

He has been with THD for over 11 years and worked on a wide range of nonprofit organizations including The Alzheimer’s Association, United States Olympic Committee, American Lung Association, Habitat for Humanity and St. Jude’s League.

In his free time, Matt enjoys being with his family (including two young daughters) and tinkering on his hand-built 1965 Shelby Cobra Replica.

Martina is a solution-driven professional with strong analytical, design, problem solving and organizational skills. She has over 25 years of direct marketing experience, working with clients primarily in the non-profit, insurance, financial and mortgage industries. Her expertise includes data, data processing, list fulfillment, compliance, vendor management and custom analytics for both customer and prospect solutions.

Prior to joining THD, Martina was Vice President of Data Operations at ChoicePoint Precision Marketing. Before that, she was at Epsilon, with her most recent role there as Senior Director of Managed Services, which included overseeing the group responsible for all of the non-profit acquisition merge/purge projects. She has a degree in Computer Science from Dartmouth College.

Martina enjoys spending time outdoors, whether it is gardening, playing softball, hiking or kayaking. She also enjoys photography and traveling.

Upon graduating from Boston College, Dan fell into the direct marketing industry. His first job was with a small direct marketing agency, where he learned about the nuances of printing and mailing. With a keen eye for detail, Dan took it upon himself to find ways to improve the printing and mailing processes for the agency and the customers they served.

Having honed his talents, skills and insights working for the likes of Sovietski Collection, Mercury Marketing and Mullen Advertising, Dan is now responsible for overseeing the annual printing and mailing of more than 300 million pieces of mail for THD’s clients.

Outside of the office, when he gets a few minutes free from being a father of three, Dan is a die-hard fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins. Also on the rare occasions Dan is not working, he enjoys music and is an avid traveler as a consequence of spending his high school years in Rome, Italy.
